Event Story – HAPPY NEW YEAR SHOW! ch.13
Mon, Jan. 11th, 2021 09:00 pmー The next day.
Akira: Oohー it's still crowded!
Anyway, mochi sure are good. I could eat a bunch of them.
Gast: How easygoing.
Akira: Like they say, an army something? I dunno really, but Will said it before.
Will: It's "an army marches on its stomach". You can't perform at your full potential if you're hungry, having a good meal is important.
Akira, gobbling up is dangerous, so eat slowly.
Akira: Yeaー hack, cough!
Will: What did I just tell you, geez...
Akira: Mochi are sooo good, but it's kinda hard to eat them, huh. They stretch so much...
Will: That's the reason they say it's a sign of good luck. Since mochi strech well and are hard to cut, it seems it means to wish for one's longevity.
Eating mochi on New Year is what remains of an old Japanese longevity event or something.
Akira: Heh, you really know a lot, Will.
Will: ... I just remember reading it in a book when I was a kid.
Now that I think about it, it's not just mochi, but pounding mochi, too, has a meaning.
Akira: Nh? It's not something like... you can't eat them if you don't pound them, right?
Will: Yeah, it is said that rice has a sacred power, it means to solidify and to strengthen the power...
Also, you can't make mochi by yourself, so it seems it has the implication of increasing the sense of connectedness, of cooperation.
Gast: Cooperation... you could say it's the same for the rookies' training.
Akira: ...... That's it!
Will & Gast: ?
Akira: We've been told over and over that teamwork is demanded of us rookies, right?
So I've been thinking, why not showing off how to make mochi on the show, to demonstrate them that we rookies work hard everyday to develop teamwork!
Will: I see... then, Akira the rookie will be the only person who can handle this content.
Gast: Making mochi is kinda flashy. Ain't that fine?
Akira: Well... I still feel it's not flashy or original.

Gast: But don't cha think this kinda stuff looks easy, but it's actually difficult?
Like you're just toasting it, but you unexpectedly end up burning it. I mean, I've never toasted mochi, but isn't it the same with bread? Like if you take your eyes off of it for a moment one side turns black.
Will: That's only you, Adler.
Akira: Yup, I don't mess up things like that.
Gast: Whaaat...
Akira: Besides, I'm confident in my control of the flames. Even when we were survivors on a desert island I did great.
Will: Akira was a big help at the time. The fish were perfectly cooked.
Gast: That reminds me, didn't you also toast the marshmallows using your ability at the campfire during the rookies' camp?
Akira: Hehe. That's right, if I touch something, I can toast it perfectly at any heatー

Will & Gast: !?
Will: W- What's wrong, Akira? Suddenly yelling...
Akira: I can use this ability of mine! I'll toast the mochi with my hero ability. Since I can adjust the heat, I'll also be able to carry on the flashy performance I wanted to do.
Gast: Heh, ain't that an interesting idea? Rather than call it original, it's a performance only you can pull off.
Akira: Hehe, I know right?

Will: You also need the ingredients to make mochi, right? I'm on familiar terms with the traditional Japanese sweets shops, so I'll ask if they can sell me some good sticky rice.
